Blinds Supermarket review

A self-styled one-stop blind shop, Blinds Supermarket provides all the information you need to be able to choose, order and fit your own made-to-measure blinds.

Their site guides you through the process from beginning to end, including offering step-by-step instructions for measuring your windows, advice on which blinds may best suit which rooms and a room designer tool that provides virtual previews of how different blinds could look in your home. Their blinds come provided with full fitting instructions, which are also available to download online.

Made to measure blinds

Blinds Supermarket sells made to measure venetian blinds, pleated blinds, wooden venetian blinds, vertical, roller, woodweave and create-your-own, personalised photo blinds.

For each type of blind, they suggest suitable rooms and offer helpful design-related tips. You can view their best sellers and current "star buy" by following the links in the menu to the left hand side of their pages.

Virtual blinds designer

Blinds Supermarket's "Room Designer" offers an impressive representation of how each different style and colour of blind could look in a living room, kitchen, bathroom, dining room or bedroom.

Having first chosen a room, you can alter the colours of walls, floors and other key furnishings (eg bath panels, kitchen cabinets, settees, lamps, etc) to develop an overall colour scheme to match that of your own, real room. You can even change the colour of their cat - so we made a blue one!

You can then use the room designer tool to add and switch between different styles of blinds, including in all of their respective available colours and finishes (ie including metallic and wooden blinds).

The overall illustration gives you a great feeling for how new blinds would look if you ordered and fitted them in your own rooms.

By registering online with Blinds Supermarket, you can also save rooms you've designed, along with your window measurements and any specific price quotations you've created.

Create your own blinds

Blinds Supermarket also offers the facility to create uniquely personalised blinds using images from your own digital photos, which you can upload via their website before ordering.

If the shape of your photo doesn't fully match the proportions of the blind you're ordering, their design team will suggest which area of your photo should be reproduced onto the blind. This process is referred to as "cropping" and simply involves discarding areas to the top, bottom, left and/or right of the main subject of your photo. If you already know how you'd like an image to be cropped, you can enter that information when placing your photo blinds order.

Whether you specify cropping yourself or leave it to Blinds Supermarket, they'll always send you a preview example of how they're planning for your photo blinds to look (called a "proof") before they actually start to make it. If you're not happy, just let them know and they'll change it to suit your requirements.

Fitting your blinds

According to Blinds Supermarket, all you'll need to fit your new blinds are a power drill with a suitable bit, a Phillips screwdriver (cross head, not flat) and a pencil. For the drill, you'll need a 5.5mm masonry bit for drilling into plaster, concrete or brick or a 3mm high speed steel / HSS bit for drilling into wood, UPVC or steel.

Speaking from experience, we'd also suggest adding a pair of safety goggles to that equipment list, to protect your eyes from the danger of tiny metal shards or other debris.
